i served a year and a half or close to a year and a half in the united states senate. that is my record. i certainly am not the most experienced person in washington, d.c. but by the same token i have experience in serving in government and particularly in the legislative branch in one of the largest states and more complex states in the country in terms of public policy. and the good news is that every day that goes by i gain more experience on these things. i would also say this. there is a point of diminishing return on washington experience and what i learned about washington is that times if you are there too long you start to believe that certain things are no longer possible. in you are there too long you start to become like the way the president has become die devisive and looking to pit americans against eacher who in a political conversation. in 2008 he promised to unite americans and he doesn't done that any more. >> senator, you made that point. i want to show you polling numbers. hispanics make up 46% of new mexico's population. 27 about northwest nevada.
